Background:
Over his nearly two-decade NBA career, Tony Parker cemented himself as one of the greatest European basketball players of all time, leading the San Antonio Spurs to four NBA Championships. Selected by the Spurs 28th overall in the 2001 NBA Draft, Parker made an immediate impact, as he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, the first international guard to do so. The achievement was a sign of things to come for Parker, who started all 82 games the following season for the Spurs and won his first championship. This would be the first of four NBA titles with San Antonio (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014) alongside fellow Hall of Fame teammates Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, including taking home the 2007 NBA Finals MVP Award. His Spurs teams made the playoffs in 17 straight seasons and Parker remains San Antonio’s all-time leader in assists. The Spurs honoured Parker’s impact on the franchise by retiring his No. 9 jersey in 2019. Following his time as a player, Parker had success in other ventures, most notably as owner and president of the ASVEL Basket team in LNB Pro A, the top professional league in France.

Background:
After a standout college career with the Arizona Wildcats, where he earned All-American honours, Channing Frye entered the NBA as the eighth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. Making an immediate impact in the league, Frye was selected to the 2005-06 NBA All- Rookie First Team. After his time in the Garden, Frye was traded to Portland and then to Phoenix Suns, where he truly flourished, showcasing his exceptional shooting. During his stints in Portland, Phoenix and Orlando, Frye displayed his versatility on the court but also his charismatic personality off the court too, endearing him to fans and teammates alike. The pinnacle of Frye’s career came in 2016 when he helped the Cleveland Cavaliers win their first NBA Championship, contributing significantly to their historic comeback against the Golden State Warriors. Despite retirement, Frye has continued to entertain basketball fans worldwide hosting the popular podcast “Road Trippin’” with his teammate from the 2016 NBA Championship-winning Cavaliers, Richard Jefferson.

Sabrina Ionescu

Background:
At the age of 25, WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu is already one of the most recognizable female basketball players in the world. Sabrina started her career playing for the University of Oregon where she became the only player in NCAA history with over 2,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists. After a stellar college career, Sabrina was selected with the first overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty. In only three years, Sabrina has already made two WNBA All-Star appearances, became the first Liberty player to record a triple-double, as well as the tenth in league history. In 2023, Sabrina led the Liberty to the WNBA Finals, only to lose to the Las Vegas Aces in a Championship-clinching win that scored record-breaking viewership for ESPN. Off the court, Sabrina is the newest Nike Signature Athlete and the first woman to lead a unisex shoe collection for the company.

Background:
Throughout a successful career both in France and in the NBA, Piétrus established himself as one of the leading French basketball players of his day. While playing professionally in France from 1999 to 2003, he led his team, Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez, to two French Championships in 2001 and 2003. After national success, Piétrus left France to play in the NBA, where he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2003. He played both small forward and shooting guard for five seasons with the Warriors before joining the Orlando Magic in 2008. While playing for the Magic, he helped propel the team to the 2009 NBA Finals. During his decade in the league, he also played for the Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, and Toronto Raptors. He was also a cornerstone of the French National team, winning the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2005 and playing in the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Known by several nicknames including MP, Air France, Euro Jordan, and Puma, Mickaël Piétrus has cemented himself as one of the best French basketballers of all time.

Background:
Ian Mahinmi began his professional basketball career in France before making the leap to the NBA, picked by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2005 NBA Draft. Mahinmi spent key developmental years in San Antonio before moving in-state to the Dallas Mavericks in 2010. In 2011, Mahinmi played a crucial role in the Mavericks’ Championship run, playing alongside fellow European Dirk Nowitzki. In Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, Mahinmi collected a crucial offensive rebound in the closing seconds of the third quarter before hitting a buzzer beater shot to further extend the Mavericks lead. The Mavs would eventually go on to win the game and claim their first NBA Championship. After stints with the Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards, Mahinmi retired and returned to his native France.

Anderson Varejão

Background:
Arguably one of the best South American NBA players of all time, Anderson Varejão’s professional career began in Brazil playing for Franca in São Paulo, before signing with FC Barcelona in Europe. During his time in Spain, Varejão helped Barcelona to its first ever EuroLeague championship in 2003. Drafted to the Orlando Magic and immediately traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Varejão quickly became a fan favourite in Cleveland. Known for his distinctive hairstyle and relentless work ethic, the Brazilian big man played for the Cavs for over a decade alongside LeBron James and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2010. Varejão played a crucial role in the Cavs journeys to the NBA Finals in 2007 and 2015, only to miss out on a Championship ring twice. In 2016, Varejao was traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he played a part in the team's record-setting 73-win season. He reached the NBA Finals once again, this time facing his former team, the Cavaliers, in a memorable matchup. He was also a frequent international competitor for Brazil, representing his country at the 2012 Olympics and helping the Brazilian National Team win the Pan American Games in 2003.
